On June 13, the NA Deputy Speaker Lena Nazaryan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Armenia Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno.

The Ambassador has noted with satisfaction the fact that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries the bilateral ties has successfully developed. In the expansion of the Armenian-Mexican relations Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno especially highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy and the participation of the Friendship Groups. In this context she informed that recently the Parliament of Mexico and in the near future Mexico-Armenia Friendship Group were formed. The Ambassador underlined that in Mexico they followed the democratic processes occurred in Armenia.

Highlighting the deepening and expansion of the relations with the Latin American countries, including Mexico, the NA Vice President has expressed conviction that the parliamentary diplomacy is an effective means in the rapprochement of the bilateral relations. She also touched upon the necessity of the mutually agreed work of the delegations in the sensitive issues for the two countries within the framework of the international parliamentary organizations.

Lena Nazaryan welcomed the establishment of the Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Armenia, which would be accompanied by the organization of the cultural events. According to the NA Deputy Speaker, it will give an opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural values of Mexico.

The interlocutors discussed issues concerning the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem. Lena Nazaryan reaffirmed the position of the Armenian side to solve the conflict exclusively through peaceful negotiations, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. In her turn the Ambassador has noted that in this issue the viewpoint of Mexico is unchangeable: it should be solved in the framework of the dialogue and the ongoing negotiations with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. Lena Nazaryan highly assessed the adoption of the statement recognizing and condemning the 1915 Armenian Genocide by the State of Michoacán de Ocampo. To the NA Deputy Speaker’s conviction, all states of the world should recognize that fact for preventing such crimes. Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno expressed hope that the issue would be possible to settle through the dialogue between Armenia and Turkey.

The sides highlighted the cooperation in many spheres, particularly the expansion of the inter-cultural ties and the implementation of the initiatives directed to the increase of the goods turnover volume.

On the same day the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Mexico Friendship Group Nora Arustamyan, members of the Group Sos Avetisyan and Taguhi Ghazaryan met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Armenia Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno.

Nora Arustamyan underlined that the geographical distance did not impede the 27-year diplomatic relations established between the two countries and the peoples’ warm and friendly ties. She emphasized the efforts aimed at the deepening of the inter-parliamentary relations, underscoring the practical work of the Friendship Groups. In the context of the rapprochement of the relations the Head of the Group referred to the importance of the expansion of the ties in a number of spheres.

In her turn the Ambassador has opined that the parliamentary diplomacy can complement each other and enrich the traditional cooperation. In this issue she evaluated the role of the Friendship Groups and the legislators’ frequent mutual visits.

To Sos Avetisyan’s conviction, the Armenian-Mexican relations have unused great potential, and we should make efforts for its realization. The MP highly assessed the balanced position of Mexico in the NK problem settlement.

Taguhi Ghazaryan reflected upon the deepening of cooperation in the spheres of culture, science and education, documenting that the inter-cultural ties could be a serious impetus in the strengthening of the friendship between the two countries and peoples.

Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno informed that a series of cultural events would be held in the framework of the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Mexico to Armenia and the Mexican Cinema Week would start.

A number of issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
